Club news for 2017 - 2018...

It was a good start to the season on the 6th August 2018 for the A's with a good FA Cup extra preliminary round victory over Epsom & Ewell with goals from Leonel Medrado. Then we went to Abbey Rangers on the 12th August in the next match and lost 3-2. Our goals came from Maddock and again Medrado.

Loxwood was up next for us in the FA Cup Preliminary round on 19th August which we won 6-3 with goals coming from Joe Kelly, two for Medrado and Stephen Joseph.

Unfortunately we lost against Balham on the 26th August 0-1. In the League we drew against Epsom & Ewell on the 28th August 1-1 with our goal from Owoladi Tunde.

Into the FA Cup 1st round on the 2nd September and lost to Glebe FC 0-4. We got back into our stride with a win against CB Hounslow United 1-0 on the 5th September the goal from Medrado.

In the FA Vase competition on the 9th September but lost 1-2 again Medrado was on the score sheet. On the 16th September we lost 0-1 to Sutton Common Rovers. then a loss to Colliers Wood Utd on the 19th September 0-3. We travelled to Chertsey on the 23rd September and came away with a 3-2 win with our goals from Ashley Elson (2), and Morrison. on the 26th September we travelled to Guildford City and won

1-0. At the end of September on the 30th we drew 3-3 against Farnham Town, goals from Joe Kelly and two from Jake Richards.

Into October and the 7th we drew 2-2 against Godalming Town goals from Nathan Brooklyn Williams and one from Ashley Elson. On the 10th we lost to Farnham Town 0-3 in the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup. On the 14th we lost 1-2 to Hanworth Villa. On the 21st October we drew 1-1 to Redhill our goal from Danny Penfold. Westfield beat us on the 28th October 5-3 our three goals came from Ashley Elson, Ashley Morrison and Martin Smith. We beat AFC Hayes 2-0 on the 4th November with goals from Alfie Arthur and Martin Smith.

Unfortunately on a plastic pitch at Walton & Hersham we lost 1-9 our goal from Tayler Maddock. On the 18th November we drew against Knaphill 1-1 our goal Billy Frost. Against Guildford City on the 22nd November we drew 1-1 with our goal from Billy Frost. On the 25th November  against Camberley Town we lost 1-2 our goal coming from Danny Penfold. On the 25th November we lost to Leatherhead after a good tussle 2-5 in the Surrey Senior Cup with our goals from Jake Richards.

Into December we travelled to Abbey Rangers on the 2nd and just didn't get going and lost 3-6 our three goals from Smith & Penfold and Connaris. At home to Hanworth Villa we went down 1-3 our goal from Smith. We then waited until the 23rd December we travelled to CB Hounslow Utd and won 1-0, a goal from Joe Kelly. Then we went five games without a win from the 6th Jan 2018 Chertsey Town 1-7 our goal from Sean Bradley, Spelthorne Sports 0-1 (13th), Godalming Town 0-3 (3rd Feb), Horley Town 4-5 (6th), Knaphill on the 10th we lost 0-3. We came storming back against Walton & Hersham and won 1-0 with our visitors being fourth in the league.

AFC Hayes were next up as an away match and we went there with a lot of confidence and managed a 2-1 victory. Then an awful journey to North Greenford United after some terrible snow. We went down 0-1.

Next we played Bedfont Sports and they were lucky to beat us 2-1. Horley Town next up and we went down 1-2 in that one as well after being well placed to get something from all these three matches. That's the way it's going at the moment.

We won a tough contest against third placed Camberley Town away 1-0 our goal coming from striker Kofi Quartey. We were down to ten men from the thirty sixth minute when Leo Medrado was shown a straight red card. We battled and got what we deserved with a dogged performance which I think made a few members of Westfield FC that had come to watch us as our next match will be against them.

Against Westfield it couldn't have gone worse, even before we had kicked off the match. We had just eleven players starting the match. No substitutes at all. After just twnty minutes Harry Wise pulled up with a hamstring problem, so we were down to playing ten fit players against the top side in the division. We were 0-5 down at halftime. In the end we lost 1-7, our goal coming from Anson Cousins.

Our next match we played away at Epsom & Ewell and were 0-2 at halftime. We rallied and got it back to 2-2 with goals from Liam Holden and Billy Frost. Should have gone onto score more and take the three points.

Spelthorne Sports we were up against it and lost 1-3.

North Greenford was the match that had been on and off, finally we played it and won 2-0 with both our goals coming from Danny Penfold.

Bedfont Sports were difficult to break down. We eventually lost that one 5-0. It wasn't that sort of a game, but they took their chances and we didn't.

Redhill came to us and we won 3-1. Goals from Tom Drinkwater,Kofi Quartey and Billy Frost.

Farnham Town we played at home also and won 3-1. Goals coming from Quartey, Frost and Morrison.

Sutton Common Rovers arrived here sitting in third place and we should have won the match. It was 1-1 as a final score. Our goal came from Liam Holden with a forty yard corker.

Colliers Wood Ut away was one game to forget . A drab 0-0

Last game of the season at home saw us lose 1-2 to Balham.

    Final league position was 19th

Season 2018-2019

Banstead Athletic 3 AFC Hayes 1 CCL

(Staff reporter)

Saturday was a very important result for this new crop of players they have assembled.

They started the game slowly and a bit tentative with Jack Minchin on hand to pull off a good save with his feet. AFC Hayes to their credit were on top for the first fifteen minutes and got their reward with a finish from a scramble in the penalty area. Banstead weren't at the races, but this side has a good unity and they started to show some belief and started to dictate play. Geraghty found Hutchings who crossed to find Cheeseman who scored from six yards out and on the stroke of halftime Geraghty slotted home to give the home side a 2-1 halftime advantage.

The second half started a bit cagey, but Banstead had the better possession and chances. Hutchings snatched at one from twelve yards and Burt should have done better from the same distance but fired over.

2-1 with minutes to go, Matt Robinson gave the scoreline a fairer reflection. Moments before Robinson scored Penfold hit the outside of the post.

A good start, but Banstead will face a Spelthorne side tonight (Tuesday) who will be a stiffer test.

FA Cup Extra-Preliminary round

Broadfields United 3 Banstead Athletic 0

After a good pre-season and two good wins in the league we were set for a trip to a club in the FA Cup Ex-Preliminary round. It didn't go to plan unfortunately, we were just not on our game. The home side were quick and were a handful to control which we were not able to do. We did struggle during the afternoon on it has to be said a very good green pitch.

Still, I still say the league is the most important and we have to concentrate on that. It's good money in the FA Cup, but that's ended for this season very early
